Valentine's Reading: A Card for Everyone

Read the story. Then answer the questions.

On the day before Valentine's Day, the children in Ella's class made cards. They cut out red and pink hearts and wrote kind words for their friends.

Ella saw that Leo was sitting alone. He was new at school and did not know anyone yet. His desk was empty. "Nobody will give me a card," he said quietly.

Ella had an idea. She whispered it to her friends, and they all got to work. The next morning, there was a big card on Leo's desk. Every child in the class had written something on it: "You are good at drawing." "Thank you for helping me." "Do you want to play at break?"

Leo read it again and again. Then he smiled the biggest smile Ella had ever seen.
